Elbphilharmonie Hamburg

Visible from afar and with a striking silhouette, the Elbphilharmonie is a Hamburg landmark – even before the official opening on January 11, 2017. The outstanding architecture is underlined by a lighting concept by the well-known lighting designer Ulrike Brandi, also from Hamburg.
It works with simple optical principles and sets the architecture perfectly in scene without putting itself in the foreground. In this way, the contact between inside and outside is maintained for the viewer from all perspectives - sky, water and the panorama of the city should be tangible and should not be overlaid. In the Great Hall, too, the lighting designer's goal was to accentuate the grandeur of the room.
Over 800 FLASHAAR NauticProfil lights were integrated into the steps of the hall and emphasize the terracing of the tiers. As part of the emergency lighting, they can also be seen during the productions and provide orientation and safety. The central acoustic reflector is also staged with luminaires from FLASHAAR.
The special lights based on the FLASHAAR HighPowerProfile were installed all around on the top and illuminate the vault. The acoustic reflector thus stands out from the bright ceiling and becomes the defining element of the room. 72 modified FLASHAAR Solaris radiators set the scene for the concert hall's organ, which is unique in the world.
They illuminate the 4,765 pipes, some of which can be touched in the room or are visible behind a perforated wall. As the heart of the Great Hall, the organ is accessible to all visitors and at the same time perfectly integrated into the architecture of the concert hall. In addition to these central lighting elements in the Great Hall, FLASHAAR NauticProfil light lines were also used for the functional and elegant lighting of the concert box office on the ground floor of the Elbphilharmonie.
FLASHAAR has been supporting the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg project since 2007, when the newly founded company took part in the tender for the lights. The opening in the 10th year of the company's existence gives FLASHAAR two reasons to celebrate.
