DB platform lights — The ideal lighting solution for the train station

Originally developed specifically for the iconic “Hamburg” type platform roof, the DB platform light successfully celebrated its premiere at Kaiserslautern main station in February 2024. All 400 platform lights there were replaced with the new solution from FLASHAAR®. This modernization not only leads to a significant improvement in the quality of light, but also impresses with its outstanding flexibility, efficiency and longevity. These lights are also used at train stations such as Frankfurt, Freiburg, Mainz, Saarlouis and Merzig.

Flexible adaptability for any environment

  • Opening dimensions: variable for different ceiling cutouts
  • Built-in or surface-mounted variants: can be chosen flexibly, depending on the structural requirements
  • Number of light heads (luminous flux): Adjustment of the luminous flux depending on the desired brightness and environment
  • Light distribution curve: optimally coordinated light distribution for maximum efficiency and safety

What sets our DB platform light apart from other solutions?

Our DB platform lights set new standards by focusing on the specific requirements of a platform.

  • Perfect light distribution curve (LVK): The light distribution curve of our lights is precisely tailored to the conditions of the platform. The light is directed specifically to where it is needed most - on the platform, for optimal visibility and safety.
  • Excellent deep glare reduction: Our LEDs in the lights are specially set back to ensure deep glare reduction. This reduces glare not only for passengers, but also for train drivers, which is particularly crucial in complex environments.
  • Adjustable for maximum efficiency: The lights can be tilted up to -15° so that they can be aimed specifically at the center of the platform. This ensures accurate lighting and prevents tracks from being illuminated unnecessarily. This ensures optimal light control and maximum safety.
  • Redundancy for maximum operational reliability: Our lights offer exceptional reliability. Each light head is equipped with four circuits connected in parallel. If one of the circuits fails, the luminous flux is still fully maintained. Even if one of the two operating devices fails, the luminaire continues to light with half the luminous flux. This minimizes expensive downtime and significantly increases safety on platforms.

Longevity and energy efficiency

The DB platform light is designed for maximum service life and energy savings. With a power consumption of just 19 watts per light, the total electrical connected load of, for example, 400 installed lights is only 7,600 watts - this corresponds to the connected load of 1.5 standard washing machines. This high energy efficiency ensures low operating costs and contributes to achieving sustainability goals.

Conclusion

The DB platform light offers clear advantages compared to other solutions: perfectly coordinated light distribution, excellent glare control, precise alignment and maximum reliability through multiple redundancy. These features make our lights the ideal choice for anyone looking for a long-lasting, low-maintenance and cost-efficient lighting solution that optimally and safely illuminates the platform. The best thing at the end: our lights are repairable due to their modular design.
