Cultural landmark revived as a multifunctional event venue

The "Hyparschale" in Magdeburg – one of the most impressive solitary buildings designed by civil engineer Ulrich Müther – was renovated after more than 20 years of vacancy and revitalized as a multifunctional event venue. Its structural feature is the large, four-part concrete shell roof, whose load-bearing capacity was restored and even increased thanks to modern construction techniques and materials. The skylights between the four shells were opened up, giving the curved roof a light, almost floating appearance. At the same time, they provide pleasant, natural light.

Inside, gallery levels have been created, connected by walkable bridges. This makes the open space usable and accessible for numerous events and exhibitions.

A modern lighting concept creates an inviting and functional environment for visitors, both emphasizing the architectural uniqueness of the hypar shell and providing visual orientation. NauticProfil® NP Victory lines are used in the handrails, ensuring efficient and low-maintenance lighting. They create a harmonious connection between light and architecture and contribute to safety on the gallery levels and stairs.
