In the heart of Leinfelden-Echterdingen, the new "Schelmenäcker" daycare center and youth center has created a place that combines education, interaction, and community. The design by Röder Heinz Architects – winner of the 2018 design competition – impresses with its clear urban planning concept. Two buildings are connected by a shared roof, forming a unified whole that blends harmoniously into the new residential area. A dynamic passageway between the buildings creates a dynamic connection, enhancing pedestrian routes and sightlines while simultaneously providing inviting spaces for gathering.
The architecture thrives on the balance between openness and security: spacious, well-structured outdoor areas offer room for play and interaction, while sheltered interior spaces provide peace and orientation. Each daycare group has direct access to garden or terrace areas – a concept that seamlessly connects indoor and outdoor spaces.
The lighting concept also integrates seamlessly into this architectural vision. Delicate linear luminaires from our NauticProfil system were used for general and cove lighting. Their understated design emphasizes the clean lines of the architecture, while the warm white light creates a welcoming, inviting atmosphere. Thanks to the modular system, the lighting could be precisely tailored to the spatial requirements – functional, efficient, and harmonious within the overall design.
In Leinfelden-Echterdingen, this creates an ensemble that demonstrates how architecture, light, and landscape can together create places that inspire and connect.
