Clear architecture, precise light — the “Neue Ziegelei” community and cultural center in Munich

A sustainable meeting place in Prinz-Eugen-Park, whose clear architecture is functionally and atmospherically complemented by smartly integrated LED light lines.

In October 2025, the "Neue Ziegelei" community and cultural center opened in Prinz-Eugen-Park in Munich. The building serves as a central meeting point for residents of the neighborhood, bringing together social and cultural activities for all age groups under one roof. Event spaces, meeting points, and open lounge areas create spaces for encounters and foster exchange within the community.

The building also makes a clear architectural statement: sustainability and resource conservation were central to the planning and construction. Recycled bricks characterize the facade and recall the history of the site, parts of the load-bearing structure were built using timber construction, while district heating, groundwater cooling, and a roof designed to attract wild bees complement the ecological concept. Clear forms and a functional floor plan structure the building and help to clearly connect the different uses on all levels.

A key design element in the interior is the functional lighting. Integrated NauticProfil® LED lines on all three floors provide uniform, glare-free illumination of the circulation and lounge areas. Precisely integrated into the ceilings, the slim lines of light follow the clear architectural language of the building and structure the circulation within. At the same time, they create a calm, understated lighting atmosphere that accentuates the materiality of the exposed concrete surfaces and wooden elements.

The linear lighting concept is consistently continued in the stairwell. Lines of light guide the way through the building along the vertical circulation and ensure safe orientation between levels. Partially integrated into the steps, they create functional lighting accents, emphasize the geometry of the staircase, and simultaneously enhance safety.

This creates a consistent lighting concept that blends discreetly into the architecture and yet contributes significantly to the quality of the space. The linear LED lights combine efficiency with design precision and help to make the clear architecture of the “New Brickworks” tangible in the interior as well.
