German Romanticism Museum – Relics of a bygone era in the light of the present

In September 2021, the new German Romanticism Museum opened in the heart of Frankfurt's old town. Numerous paintings and unique original works from the era of German Romanticism have found a new home here.
MÄCKLER ARCHITEKTEN designed the new building as a windowless museum to protect the delicate exhibits from UV radiation. The windows, dynamically distributed across the facade, open into the stairwell and foyer, while the light-sensitive exhibits are illuminated by LED lighting.
In the museum's entrance hall, NauticProfil® Radiant lines bathe the imposing historic fire wall in warm light. This fire wall, preserved in the building originally destroyed during the war, makes the site's history visible. Its spatial impact is truly impressive. Every tiny stone and the traces left by the craftsmen can be perceived by the visitor, not least because of the excellent color rendering quality of the LED lighting with a CRI of 93.
Opposite the fire wall is the entrance counter and a wall of books filled with numerous collector's items. These are softly and glare-free illuminated by a NauticProfil® LED strip integrated into the ceiling cove.
Another highlight of the museum is visible from the outside: the mosaic-glazed bay window. Bathed in a deep blue, it evokes a central symbol of Romanticism®: the blue flower. Vertically installed FLASHAAR LED strips make it glow at night.
