The Globe — a sustainable and flexible cultural venue with brilliance

During the multi-year renovation of the historic State Theatre in Coburg, a new urban quarter is emerging on the site of the former freight depot in the south of the city. This area will house events, art and culture, commerce and industry—in short, a meeting place for everyone.
The "Globe," standing 18 meters tall, is an architectural highlight of the quarter and, inspired by London's Elizabethan Globe Theatre, is an imposing circular building clad in wood. It serves as the temporary home of the Coburg State Theatre and is intended to continue enriching cultural life for young and old alike as a multifunctional, multi-purpose hall.

Energy-efficient LED lighting is intended to describe the unique architecture with light and serve, among other things, as wayfinding, with the light and its effect taking center stage, while the luminaires themselves are aesthetically understated.

The timber structure is intended to "glow"—referring to the rear facade, in front of which the wooden louvers are located. NauticProfil® LED strips of the Nova-6 type flood the rear facade with warm white light, while the louvers appear dark in the foreground.
This lighting makes the building's contours more clearly defined, emphasizes the materiality, and gives the Globe a vibrant and luminous character.

In the hall, which boasts outstanding, clear acoustics, LED strips on all levels accentuate the room's architecture and provide pleasant, warm ambient lighting. Individually adapted lights in the stairways serve as orientation aids and enhance safety.

The corridor walls in the entrance area and anterooms are illuminated from above. Simultaneously, power tracks running parallel to the LED strips create a variable lighting solution. This allows for individual accentuation of artwork from rotating exhibitions. A multifunctional space that offers much more than just a (substitute) theater stage.
