Cultural landmark revived as a multifunctional event venue

The "Hyparschale" in Magdeburg – one of the most impressive freestanding structures by civil engineer Ulrich Müther – has been renovated after more than 20 years of vacancy and revived as a multifunctional event venue. Its structural feature is the large, four-part concrete shell roof, whose load-bearing capacity has been restored and even increased thanks to modern construction techniques and materials. The skylights between the four shells have been opened up, giving the curved roof a light, almost floating appearance. At the same time, they provide pleasant, natural light within the space.

Inside, gallery levels have been created, connected by walkways. This makes the open space usable and accessible for numerous events or exhibitions.

A modern lighting concept creates an inviting and functional environment for visitors, highlighting the architectural features of the hyperbolic paraboloid shell while also providing visual orientation. NauticProfil® NP Victory lines are integrated into the handrails, ensuring efficient and low-maintenance lighting. They create a harmonious connection between light and architecture and contribute to safety on the gallery levels and staircases.
