In the summer, the inauguration of the bridge connecting the north and south piers in Mainz's customs port was celebrated with a bridge festival. For a long time, pedestrians and cyclists on their way to the Kaiserbrücke (Emperor's Bridge) stood questioningly in front of the construction fences. The bridge now allows access along the Rhine promenade directly from the city center to the Kaiserbrücke, the railway bridge between Mainz and Wiesbaden.
The 60-meter-long pedestrian and cycle bridge was built precisely on the site of the historic swing bridge. Both listed bridgeheads made of basalt lava were extensively renovated for the new construction. It consists of two fixed steel girders, each extending from the piers. In the middle are two hinged steel elements that can be raised remotely.
Light lines from FLASHAAR extend across both sides of the bridge. They emphasize the dynamic lines of the modern structure, showcase the bridge, and ensure safety at night. The NauticProfil® system is used, enabling long lines of light with uniform illumination and easy installation thanks to its plug-and-play mounting. For the bascule bridge in the customs port, 68 lights, each 10 cm long, were installed using the Nova-4 LED series, which offers long lifespan, low energy consumption, and excellent value for money. Linear 60° lenses ensure an optimal beam angle. The product is finished with a PU encapsulation that protects the lights from dust and water jets.
