Firefighters often have a dangerous job. Even though they are trained in courses and exercises to assess and deal with hazards, a residual risk always remains. Physically demanding work, heat, electrical hazards, hazardous materials, and other factors can endanger the rescuers themselves during some operations and cause a medical emergency.
Firefighters must also be able to take life-saving measures on accident victims themselves, either to bridge the time until the arrival of paramedics and emergency physicians or to support them in their assistance.
Thanks to a generous donation from the Corneli rescue service , the company FLASHAAR LEDLight, and the Bingen-Stadt fire department's support association, , worth over €1,200.
The existing equipment, which already met the standard for first aid, has been significantly improved. In an emergency, considerably more comprehensive and effective assistance measures are now possible. This is especially true because the Bingen-Stadt unit includes several members who are trained as emergency medical technicians or paramedics, or who work full-time in emergency medical services. The equipment is loaded onto the fire engine, which is the first response vehicle in almost all emergency situations.
Unit leader Marco Woog thanked the donors on behalf of the Bingen fire department for this meaningful and unbureaucratic support.
