German Romantic Museum – relics of the past in the light of the present

The new building of the German Romanticism Museum opened in September 2021 in the heart of Frankfurt's old town. Numerous paintings and unique originals from the German-speaking Romantic era have found a new home here.
MÄCKLER ARCHITEKTEN designed the new building as a windowless museum to protect the sensitive exhibits from UV radiation. Indeed, the windows vividly distributed throughout the façade lead into the stairwell and foyer, while LED lighting illuminates the light-sensitive exhibits.
In the museum's entrance hall, NauticProfil® Radiant lines bathe the imposing historic fire wall in a warm glow. The fire wall was preserved in the building originally destroyed in the war and brings the history of the site to life. Its spatial impression is impressive. Every tiny stone and the traces of the craftsmen's work can be perceived by visitors, not least thanks to the excellent color rendering quality of the LED lighting with a CRI of 93.
Opposite the fire wall is the entrance area's counter and a bookcase with numerous collectibles. These are softly and glare-free illuminated by a NauticProfil® LED line integrated into the ceiling cove.
Another highlight of the museum is visible from the outside: the mosaic-like glazed bay window. Bathed in a deep blue, it is reminiscent of a central symbol of Romanticism®: the blue flower. Vertically installed FLASHAAR LED lines illuminate this bay window at night.
